[28-29.4] Tourism Hackdays 2021

This year’s event will take place online on Wednesday the 28th and Thursday the 29th of April, 2021, with a kickoff on Wednesday the 21st of April at 17:00.

For the third time, the HSLU – Open Data Hackdays are dedicated to the topic of tourism in Switzerland. With approx 45 Billion total revenue and 180 000 full time jobs eq. in 2018, tourism is a major swiss industry. Obviously health concerns but also ecological concern, individual tourism, globalization, technological progress, urbanization and mobility are all issues that tourism is facing and will increasingly face but those issues also constitute emerging opportunities. To deal with these megatrends, the whole industry must respond with new, innovative and transparent offers and products. At the Tourism Hackdays 2021, we will address these topics and work together, reflecting on transformation processes, analysing existing data and developing ideas and solutions.

Background on past events:

Congrats to the student and faculty organizers all the participants of the Hackdays! A few data-ful highlights from the pitches follow here. You can catch the video recordings at the :movie_camera: YouTube playlist

Finding sightseeing opportunities for tourists on the go, the Sights around me team evaluated two different approaches to building an app based on the MySwitzerland API, with considerable thought paid to accessible geodata and map-based User Experience.

This project asks what information do foreign visitors need to know before entering Switzerland during the ongoing pandemic. And the team looked into, and proposed ways around, the gaps in directly usable data on COVID-19 restrictions for their prototype - see https://reopen-switzerland.ch/ or watch their pitch:
